PANGKIL ISLAND

 

Pangkil island is about 20 minutes away by boat from Tanjung Pinang International ferry terminal. Unknown to visitor the island which about 7 km long and 1 .5 km wide located at the Southern part of Bintan Island. Part of the island have very good sandy beach but most of the island sandy beachfront cover with mangrove trees. The sea water surrounding Pangkil is clean, and on clam and sunny day the water is crystal clear. There are coral reefs around the island about 100 to 250 meters away from the coastal line. During the low tide visitors and guest can stroll the coral area for a closer look for all kind of sea shells, crabs, star fish, small fish and other sea creatures.

 

There are 2 Malay fishing villages at the island located at both end of the island, Tanjung Budus and Kampong Tengah. Majority of them are fisherman and there are about 300 families staying at the island with one village head ( Penghulu ). The villages are friendly and the island are quiet during the night except when there is an event such as wedding function and local function.

 

The island have good infrastructure such as road, electrical, water supply, government clinic and police post. Water are mainly from drill well for general used where for foreigner, guests and visitors gallon water ( distilled water ) are advice to use for drinking. The gallon water bought from Bintan Island. Currently electricity available from 5pm to 7am daily, above that owner can install own generator for own used.

 

This idly island with 7 km long have about 15km long of road and track which are good for jogging and cycling, there are no cars except motorbike and bicycles at the island. The beach and the sea area are good for sun tanning, relax, swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and fishing. Diving spots also available near by the island.

 

There is a local (Pangkil island ) ferry service boat, their service is 1 trip per day from Pangkil Island to Bintan Island which departure at 6:30 am and return back to Pangkil island  from the fish market at Tanjung Pinang departure time at 11 am. Fees:  10,000 Rupiah per pax per trip. Children below 5 years old are free.
